New EP "Chocolate, Candy, Love and Dreams"

"New Zealand psychedelic producer Kraus returns with a six-track EP of bright and chewy electronic sounds. Full of glassy polyrhythmic percussion and crisp hyper-real synth-flutes, harps and gongs, Chocolate, Candy, Love and Dreams is an uplifting ode to digital sound. Produced in bed due to the artist's chronic illness, these songs were created as a form of sonic therapy, and draw on the work of American synth pioneer Laurie Spiegel, along with contemporary underground electronic artists from around the world, such as DSR Lines, Cool Person, Hama and Luka Productions. A nostalgic nod to 80s library music and FM-synth game soundtracks, yet also completely fresh."

Upcoming live shows:
Saturday 5th June at Audio Foundation, Auckland
Saturday 17th July at Wine Cellar, Auckland

Kraus "A Golden Brain" album release show
With support from Old Chips
Friday 24th July at Audio Foundation. Tickets from Under the Radar

29 April 2020

Kraus "A Golden Brain" album is out today.

"Aotearoa/New Zealand instrumental producer Kraus is back with a new album A Golden Brain, a scorching hot firecracker that sets the controls for the heart of somewhere between the outer limits and the Bermuda Triangle."

"I have never heard one dunger from Kraus, and here, his space-fried freakbeat micro-ragas are as hypnotic and alluring as ever. A Golden Brain is instantly hooky and familiar but radically singular and blazingly new."

"These pieces burn deep into your psyche and will hum and melt inside your head like a fever dream while you sleep. Kraus majestically brings together synths, guitar, bass, tape loops, sampler and percussion with a kind of alchemical juju. These pieces of scrunched up space junk, arcane mangled library music, mutant folk and medieval futurism will leave you scratching your head, wondering how he does it."

What IS happening? I/he (Kraus) is in dunedin for ONE MONTH. In the mean time:

KRAUS ""grip the moon"" reviewed by byron coley in the wire:

"Fine solo tape by New Zealand's Pat Kraus, a multi-instrumental avant garage threat, whose first album was reissued by Ultra Eczema (so you know it ain't hay). The instrumentals range from garage-oid pseudo-band workouts to electronics based mood-splurts and even some proggy spots in between these."
